Measures human Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor Type-1 (PAI-1) antigen in plasma.As a primary regulator of fibrinolysis, PAI-1 is found in a number of tissues and cell types, including macrophages/monocytes, hepatocytes, vascular endothelia, adipose tissue of the heart and lungs and in platelets. Levels of PAI-1 in plasma are associated with various thrombotic and fibrinolytic complications. Deficiency of PAI-1 activity is associated with bleeding disorders wherein routine hemostatic screening tests are normal. High levels of PAI-1 activity are found in patients suffering from myocardial infarction, hemolytic uremic syndrome and stroke.
